Championship Golf at Oakfield

Oakfield Golf & Country Club is widely recognized as one of Atlantic Canada's premier golf facilities. Our dedicated team strives to ensure a visit to Oakfield will be remembered as a warm welcome and outstanding service. Our championship golf course is set in beautiful scenic surroundings, providing golfers with the perfect blend of playability and challenge.

Graham Cooke re-designed our 18-hole course to provide nine different tee combinations that ensures enjoyment of the game and adapts to suit your level of play. From 2016, the course has been rated to be played at yardages ranging from 4,252 yards to 6,770 yards, thereby accommodating all ages and level of play. Oakfield is a semi-private members' golf facility offering innovative membership opportunities blending the demands of the modern day golfer with today's lifestyles. We deeply value our reputation of being a friendly, welcoming, family oriented golf club and take great pride in maintaining our 'inclusive' philosophy that has been at the forefront of Oakfield's vision and carried as a badge of honour since our opening in 1962.

Hole 1 - CHEBUCTO

  • Par 5
  • Men's Handicap: 15
  • Women's Handicap: 3
  • 535
  • 500
  • 455
  • 423
  • 378
Hole Description

Oakfield begins its journey with a reachable par 5 and serves for many as the best chance for birdie. However, the green is well-protected with wooded areas on all sides of the green. Those who choose to lay up are not given a free pass as a pond will penalize those who are not diligent with their second shot.

Hole 2 - LITTLE DIPPER

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 11
  • Women's Handicap: 9
  • 384
  • 355
  • 315
  • 291
  • 254
Hole Description

Tee shot placement is important as a group of pine trees penalize those trying to cut the corner. The green slopes from back to front and is marked by two distinct mounds that influence putts throughout the green.

Hole 3 - ACORN DRIVE

  • Par 3
  • Men's Handicap: 3
  • Women's Handicap: 15
  • 203
  • 181
  • 163
  • 129
  • 97
Hole Description

Hole 3 is a par 3 to a long and narrow green perched among rolling hills. Trouble surrounds this green in the form of swales and bunkers. The most difficult hole during the 2019 HFX Pro-Am makes par a great score.

Hole 4 - DEVIL'S ELBOW

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 17
  • Women's Handicap: 11
  • 335
  • 312
  • 292
  • 267
  • 216
Hole Description

A Short Risk/Reward par 4. The grouping of trees straight ahead off the tee will cause many to keep driver in the bag. Second shot accuracy is paramount as misguided approaches to the right are subject to a bunker and steep mounding right of the green that will make par a difficult endeavor.

Hole 5 - BRIGADOON

  • Par 3
  • Men's Handicap: 5
  • Women's Handicap: 17
  • 193
  • 168
  • 144
  • 116
  • 83
Hole Description

A scenic hole. The tee shot is sheltered by trees and gives false sense of calm. Wind coming off of Fish Lake can make clearing the pond in front of the green more difficult to clear than one may think.

Hole 6 - OAK BURN

  • Par 5
  • Men's Handicap: 13
  • Women's Handicap: 5
  • 500
  • 480
  • 445
  • 415
  • 330
Hole Description

Elevated tee shot with bunkers and ponds framing your landing area. Staying below the pin is a must as the green slopes from back to front making for a very difficult putt or chip if you go long.

Hole 7 - GOLDEN GLOW

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 1
  • Women's Handicap: 1
  • 419
  • 397
  • 351
  • 314
  • 268
Hole Description

The scenic 7th hole is guarded on both sides by willow trees that border the hole, making an accurate tee shot paramount. A long shot for most into the green makes for a challenging attempt at par. Beautiful pines frame the green site and Fish Lake is visible as you putt.

Hole 8 - WAYWARD WINDS

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 7
  • Women's Handicap: 7
  • 400
  • 373
  • 355
  • 330
  • 235
Hole Description

An elevated tee shot to a wide fairway is inviting to all players. The green is perched high above the typical fairway landing area with bunkers protecting the front of the putting surface. The green is relatively flat with subtle undulations to confuse the uninitiated.

Hole 9 - GALLERY GREEN

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 9
  • Women's Handicap: 13
  • 382
  • 362
  • 334
  • 275
  • 252
Hole Description

A straight ahead par 4 with bunkers and mounding guarding the right side. A narrow, two tiered green places the emphasis on distance control as you do not want to get caught on the wrong side of the green.

Hole 10 - BIRCH BEND

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 12
  • Women's Handicap: 12
  • 365
  • 354
  • 322
  • 291
  • 231
Hole Description

There are decisions to make on this hole; a well placed driver will leave a short approach shot, giving one a good chance at par. The fairway runs downhill from right to left. Those who do not cut the corner properly run out of room to the right as the trees eagerly await stray shots.

Hole 11 - THE SCOTIAN

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 6
  • Women's Handicap: 6
  • 433
  • 411
  • 371
  • 320
  • 249
Hole Description

The 11th is a long par 4 with a slope that shields a narrow landing area on the fairway. The shot into the green is tough as bunkers and difficult slopes surround the green with a distinct slope in the middle.

Hole 12 - WHISPERING PINES

  • Par 5
  • Men's Handicap: 18
  • Women's Handicap: 8
  • 507
  • 490
  • 461
  • 428
  • 393
Hole Description

One of the premier par 5s in the province. An elevated tee shot offers risk and reward as those trying to cut the corner are met by a trio of fairway bunkers that will command a layup or pitch shot should you fail to make the carry. Enjoy the beautiful view of Fish Lake as you make your approach. A pond short and left of the green will punish aggressive players trying to get home in two.

Hole 13 - WATERLOO

  • Par 3
  • Men's Handicap: 16
  • Women's Handicap: 14
  • 160
  • 138
  • 132
  • 112
  • 102
Hole Description

The signature hole at Oakfield is a short par 3 over the edge of Fish Lake. Though it is the shortest hole on the course, the water and the prevailing wind off the water necessitate as much grit as it does skill.

Hole 14 - BUNKER HILL

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 2
  • Women's Handicap: 2
  • 405
  • 395
  • 345
  • 309
  • 228
Hole Description

A sweeping right to left slope near the landing area can add yards to the tee shot, or leave a long, elevated shot to the green which has a severe slope in the middle, lending to the importance of using the proper club. A bunker follows the contour of the front and left portion of the green.

Hole 15 - TENDER TRAPS

  • Par 3
  • Men's Handicap: 14
  • Women's Handicap: 18
  • 176
  • 160
  • 132
  • 113
  • 99
Hole Description

Elevated par 3. The wide green is quite short, necessitating solid distance control with your irons. Short shots are penalized as three bunkers guard the front of the green and the false front on the approach prevents the ability to run the ball onto the green. Long and the uphill slope toward the 16th tee make for a treacherous up and down.

Hole 16 - LAURIE LEA

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 8
  • Women's Handicap: 10
  • 382
  • 355
  • 338
  • 296
  • 231
Hole Description

The 16th is a par 4 with a welcoming landing area. Distance control on your approach as the elevated green will repel short shots down the steep approach or in the deep greenside bunker. A large green does not guarantee an easy two putt.

Hole 17 - WEEPING WILLOW

  • Par 5
  • Men's Handicap: 10
  • Women's Handicap: 16
  • 550
  • 514
  • 448
  • 390
  • 349
Hole Description

The longest hole at Oakfield is a par 5 that winds slightly downhill to the right before turning sharply and steeply uphill to the left. Tee shots that do not follow the initial dog leg right bring a series of bunkers and trees to the left. If you are thinking of getting to the green in two you will likely have a blind shot with a grouping of tall willows to your left. The elevated green is protected by a large greenside bunker in the front.

Hole 18 - GRAND VIEW

  • Par 4
  • Men's Handicap: 4
  • Women's Handicap: 4
  • 441
  • 412
  • 388
  • 325
  • 257
Hole Description

The finishing hole at Oakfield is a brute. An elevated tee shot is intimidating as the fairway is guarded by bunkers to the left in the landing area. The approach shot is a steep uphill climb revealing a multi-tiered green. A post-round beverage at the clubhouse is encouraged to celebrate a well-earned par, or to lick your wounds after ‘Grandview’ has taken another victim.
